
Rae Mainwaring
Rae Mainwaring is a writer and theatre maker from Birmingham. After graduating from the university of Birmingham she began a career in theatre working across different production departments before working as a facilitator.
Rae was a lead artist on the community engagement Program Furnace in 2018 and was part of the 2019 Foundry cohort at Birmingham Rep. Represented by Knight Hall Agency, her play Bright Places won the Peggy Ramsey/Film4 award in 2023 and has just finished a regional tour, including venues such as Northen stage, Birmingham Rep, the Traverse and Soho London. The play is also under option with LeftBank Pictures.
Rae has written for Women in Theatre, The Playhouse Project, The Young Rep Youth theatre, Cannock Chase Council Chase Tales-A musical audio walk, co written with Aimee Berwick and has a co-created a project A Beginner’s guide to Widowhood with Omar Khan, which is about to tour in Spring 2025. Her KS2 play, The Last (plastic) Straw was commissioned by the playhouse project in 2020 and was recommissioned in 2024, being performed in theatres around the country as part of a school’s project.
She was part of the BBC Writers room, ‘Cov voices’ in 2021 and was part of the 2020-22 cohort with Graeae theatre’s Beyond program.
